“I need a gift for my great aunt” was the statement that sparked the start of Canning Creations, LLC.

For many years I have been canning jams and pickles for family and friends. Just before the holidays in 2016, a friend shared that she was looking for a present for her 92 year old great aunt. She asked if I would consider selling her some jars of my Rhubarb Jam, to which I said, “Of course!” A few weeks later I asked her if the gift of was a hit. I hoped to hear that her great aunt loved my rhubarb jam, but what she told me touched my heart.

Here, we had thought this gift of jam to be just a flavorful treat, but once opened it brought back a flood of memories to her great aunt. For the next hour she shared stories from her childhood of making jam with her grandmother, of playing hide & seek under the cellar stairs that were lined with jars of canned fruits and vegetables, of finding her own love for canning and the wonderful things she made during her younger years. She smiled and laughed as the memories flooded back. This seemingly small gift of homemade canned rhubarb jam had become much more than a tasty treat. It was a reminder of simpler times that brought happy childhood memories to the surface, and in those moments, created new memories for my friend and her daughters as they listened to their great aunt revisit her youth. It was this story and the good feelings behind it that launched Canning Creations.

Now…six years later our Canning Creations, LLC product list has grown to include much more than jams, but the majority of our ingredients are still grown organically in our own backyard in the NW suburbs of Chicago.
